Hanging a wreath up on your door has become a huge tradition all over the world. It’s something you see at this time of the year that just accelerates the excitement for the festive season, – a Christmas staple you might say!
However, whether you make or purchase your wreath each year, did you know the history of the wreath apparently goes back to the ancient culture of the Persian Empire?
Wreaths were traditionally named diadems, meaning ‘a thing bound around’. A diadem was a band of fabric worn around the head of a royal, symbolizing victory and royalty.
They were also known in the Roman Empire to represent eternity and morality, resulting in the Romans displaying the circle of evergreen on the doors of their houses.
See, the tradition goes back much further than we think and is famous all over the world.
