The arena has a long and varied sporting history, having hosted the Commonwealth Games, World Swimming Championships and some of the most memorable boxing nights in the UK.

Legends such as Mike Tyson, David Haye and Joe Calzaghe have fought here, alongside local heroes Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and Anthony Crolla. Today, AO Arena continues to draw fans from across the country with a packed sporting calendar.

Ice hockey is returning to AO Arena for the 2026/27 season, with Manchester Storm making a long-awaited return to their original home. The venue famously hosted record-breaking crowds in the late 1990s, including a British attendance record of over 17,000 fans and this homecoming is set to bring fresh energy back to the city centre.
